TortoiseGit Win10 Icon not showing correctly

The key reason is: Window only have 15 preset floating icons.

And possibly other applications engaged all 15.

Traditionally these applications may take over some floating icons:

  1. Nutstore
  2. OneDrive
  3. SkyDrive
  4. OneDrive
  5. GDrive
  6. Mega
  7. Dropbox
  8. OwnCloud

Solution:

  1. Uninstall thse application // I'm pretty sure you will not do that
  2. Modify the registry to delete some unused floating icon

win + R and input regedit and search for below address:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers

And delete some floating icons there.

I do not use oneDrive so I can delete all of them.

Critical Action Recommend backup the registry first.
